A Family Friendly Tuscany Itinerary: Where We Stayed, What We Did & Why We Loved It

Tuscany with Kids: Our Family’s Dreamy Italian Escape

This was believe it or not, a spontaneous trip for our family. We’ve never been ones to stray away from adventure and Malick and I really wanted to do something fun for the family before Kayden started Kindergarten, so a trip to Italy was just the thing. It began with a night flight into Rome. I was a little nervous about how the kids would handle such a long journey, but they completely surprised me. Between the in-flight entertainment, the little activities I had packed, and the fact that our plane was practically empty (we each had our own row to stretch out and sleep!), it was actually a really comfortable flight. I have linked our super convenient stroller set up here and our favorite travel friendly kids activities here, including some amazing screen free options!

When we landed, a private transfer picked us up and we headed straight into the heart of Tuscany. Driving through those rolling hills instantly felt like stepping into a postcard.

Our Stay at Precise Tale Poggio Alla Sala

We checked into Precise Tale Poggio Alla Sala, and I instantly knew this hotel would be special. It was everything you’d dream of in a Tuscan escape. Peaceful, romantic, and surrounded by breathtaking views, yet also completely welcoming for families.

The property has multiple pools, a kids club, a full spa, and breakfast included each morning. The food was incredible, the service was warm, and the environment felt both luxurious and kid-friendly. It struck that perfect balance I’m always hoping for when we travel with little ones.

A Kid-Friendly Winery Experience

One of our first outings was to La Ciarliana, a winery in the area that offers a special kid-friendly tour. While adults usually come for the vineyards, what made this experience so unique is how thoughtful they were in creating an environment where children could also feel included. The kids loved exploring the grounds and learning about the process in a way that was simple and fun for them. They even had a juice tasting for the kids along with coloring sheets which made the experience so interactive and fun for them!

Exploring Montepulciano & A Farm Surprise

The next day we took a short trip to Montepulciano, a charming Tuscan hill town filled with history. We wandered its cobblestone streets, admired the architecture, and of course stopped for gelato and a leisurely lunch in the town square.

Later that afternoon, we surprised the kids with a visit to a local agriturismo (farm). This turned out to be one of their favorite experiences of the trip! We fed animals like ducks, chickens, donkeys, and horses, and even picked fruit called susine, small plums that are sweet and refreshing. Talk about organic! The kids explored the farm and they even served us fresh apple fritter bread and wine. The hotel was able to set this entire experience up for us which was amazing!

There was an option for horseback riding, which we decided to skip since our kids are still young, but I’d highly recommend it for families with older children. The kids even made a little friend, Gigo, the farm cat. We ended the day with a sunset swim back at the hotel, looking out over the Tuscan hills, one of those moments you just want to freeze in time.

A Day in Siena

On our third day, we visited Siena, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The city is rich with history, yet so lively and beautiful. We spent the day exploring the piazzas, enjoying the views, and soaking in the charm of the winding streets. And yes, there was more gelato! Siena was by far my favorite little Tuscan town, it was stroller friendly and had the most breathtaking views! There is a famous spot for pictures called, Val d’Orcia where you can see rows of Cypress trees and its the ultimate Tuscan view. You will pass it on your way into the town of Siena and also when you leave. It is definitely worth stopping and snapping a photo!

A Romantic Evening (Thanks to the Kids Club)

For our last night in Tuscany, we took advantage of the hotel’s kids club, which quickly became a favorite for the kids. They had such a great time playing that they didn’t want to leave when we came back for them! This gave Malick and I a rare chance to enjoy a romantic dinner overlooking the hills and enjoy each others company.

It was the perfect ending to our time in Tuscany. When we picked the kids up, they didn’t want to leave. The staff was so friendly and inviting! The next morning we packed up to head on our next adventure, Cinque Terre! Stay tuned for the Cinque Terre & Rome posts coming soon!

xoxo,

Farheen
